Game Recaps : September 3, 2017

Alice Embroidery wins big

This past weekend saw another round of Leduc Old Blades Hockey League action, starting with a game between Leduc Chrysler and Alice Embroidery.

The game started off looking like it would be a back-and-forth contest, with Alice Embroidery’s Cam Ross scoring first five minutes into the first period, and Brad Carew scoring for Leduc Chrysler later in the period to tie the game up 1-1.

But it was all Alice Embroidery from there.

The Alice squad scored two more goals before the intermission courtesy Shawn Rowles and Stan Lubichinski. The team carried that momentum into the second period with Sam Roth scoring another for Alice Embroidery, giving them a 4-1 lead.

Later in the frame, Ross scored two more times – both on the powerplay – to secure the hat-trick and the 6-1 win for Alice Embroidery.

Alice goaltender Clint Webber stopped 39 of 40 shots to pick of the win, while Derek Auclair was saddled with the loss despite making 50 saves in the contest.

DJI tops Boyds xXxCavating

The scoring started early in the weekend’s second game with Curtis Ferguson notching a goal for DJI Oilfield Hauling just 28 seconds in.

But just two and a half minutes later, Curtis Boyle scored for Boyds xXxCavating tied things up 1-1.

DJI answered back, thanks to a goal from Troy Gramlich, and that was followed by a Paul Bettio goal for Boyds, tying things up 2-2.

But with his team determined to get the one goal lead back, Ferguson scored his second of the game, giving DJI a 3-2 lead at intermission.

DJI kept the momentum going after the break, with three straight goals from Gramlich, Lee Tomchuk and Ferguson’s hat-trick goal.

Duane South scored late for Boyds, but it was not enough to bring his team back.

Devin Demitor picked up the win in goal as DJI finished with a 6-3 win. James Auclair took the loss for Boyds.

Kosmos fills up the score sheet

The weekend’s third game saw Kosmos taking on Janes Worldwide Travel.

Kosmos got the scoring started early on, thanks to a goal from Cam Dunn. Derek Baille followed that up with a goal of his own, giving Kosmos as early 2-0 lead.

Janes answered back thanks to a goal from Ryan McCarron, cutting the lead to 2-1 before intermission.

But the two-goal lead was restored early in the second frame courtesy Ryan Balanecki, and Kosmos kept the good times rolling after that.

A goal from Dean Charpentier, two from Gus Mallis and one more from Baille gave Kosmos a big 7-1 lead.

Ryan Pearson scored late for Janes, but there would be no comeback in this one as Kosmos skated to a 7-2 win.

Ross Foulston picked up the win in goal for Komos. While Nicholas Stempien took the loss for Janes, he did stop a barrage of shots in the contest, making 49 saves on 56 shots.

Coldwell Banker dominates in win

The final game of the weekend saw Coldwell Banker taking on Leduc Vet Hospital.

And from the get-go, this one wasn’t close.

Mark Trenchard scored first for Coldwell, followed by goals from Jim Pickford, Michael Marco and Shelby Lomness. The two teams broke for the intermission with Coldwell up 4-0, and the game continued to go their way after the break.

Goals from Trenchard, Pickford, Clint Dyck and Scott Fleischhacker extended Coldwell’s lead to 8-0 by the time the second period was half over. Trenchard then notched his hat-trick goal to give his team a 9-0 lead.

Leduc Vet Hospital finally got on the board at the 20 minute mark of the second frame, thanks to a goal from Randy Boekestyn. But Coldwell answered right back from a goal courtesy Corey Schwab.

Coldwell would add one more thanks to Dan Potvin to put his team up 11-1. Marc Tomlinson scored late for Leduc Vet, and the game ended 11-2.

Goaltender Coy Bunbury stopped all but two shots to pick up the win for Coldwell, while Mark Dudley took the loss for Leduc Vet.
